Kings of Leon’s new album Mechanical Bull was influenced by John Travolta’s 1980’s film Urban Cowboy.

The band’s sixth album is set to release on September 24 and they have already unveiled two songs “It Don’t Matter” and “Supersoaker” at festivals across the U.S.

Regarding the two songs drummer Nathan Followill told MTV, “It’s been all pretty positive; the reaction has been great. Of course, there are a few little bastards out there that are just trying to get people riled up, but it’s all been going great, man. We’re all pretty excited.”

The album has been done for months and they are eager to play their new material for the fans. The album will also be more like their earlier albums Followill adds.

Mechanical Bull follows 2010’s Come Around Sundown, which sold 727,000 copies according to Billboard. Their break out album Only By The Night released in 2008 and sold 2.3 million copies. The album also included the hit “Use Somebody” that earned the band a Grammy for Record of the Year in 2010.

“Going in to this record we knew we wanted to have fun and make songs that are fun to play on stage . . . You’ve just got to do what’s best for the song, and luckily everyone was down with that,” Followill said.
