Legendary Pictures, the studio that co-produced The Dark Knight and Man of Steel with Warner Bros., will decide in 60 days if it plans to stick with Warner Bros. or work with another studio, CEO Thomas Tull said today.
Tull told reporters that Warner Bros. has been a great partner over its near decade-long partnership, but the two parties have been going in different directions. Still, the studio is one of the majors they have been talking with.
“We're talking to everybody including [Warner Bros.],” Tull said, reports The Wrap. “It's about the company we want to build and who can be the best place for us to fulfill that vision.”
According to Variety, Tull said that he is looking for a partnership that will allow his company to grow on its own. “We want to grow to a size and want to control as much of our destiny as much as possible,” he said, adding that a partner would have to “help fulfill the grand vision.” He is looking to create a company that not only makes films, but works in television and other media.
As for Kevin Tsujihara, the new head of Warner Bros., Tull said “he’s been great,” and has “been getting his arms around” Legendary’s situation.
Tull spoke at a meeting with the press in Hollywood to showcase his studio’s new slate of films. These include 300: Rise of An Empire, Guillermo Del Toro’s Pacific Rim and Godzilla, all films co-produced with Warner Bros. Other future Legendary films include an adaptation of Warcraft, Seventh Son with Chris Hemsworth, Spectral and As Above So Below.
