Rapper Lil Wayne has sparked controversy once again with his “God Bless Amerika” video before it has even been released. A behind-the-scenes video leaked over the weekend, showing Lil Wayne dancing on an American flag.
According to E! News, the video was shot in New Orleans during the making of the video. Wayne can be seen stepping on the flag during the one-minute video, while he raps the lyrics to the song.
The track features the lyrics, “My country, 'tis of thee/Sweet land of kill 'em all and let 'em die/So god bless America, this godless America.”
Of course, this is just the latest controversy for the rapper. Earlier this year, he included insensitive lyrics about Emmett Till, the 14-year-old black boy murdered in 1955. He wrote a letter to the family, but they were still not pleased.
Billboard notes that he also wrote the track “Georgia...Bush,” criticizing the administration’s response to Hurricane Katrina.
This morning, Wayne took to Twitter to explain the footage from “God Bless Amerika.” He wrote, “I didn't step on the flag on purpose! It's a scene in a video where the flag drops behind me and after it drop it's just there as I perform.”
