Lil Wayne, whose real name is Dwayne Michael Carter, was recorded stomping on the American flag this weekend during a video shoot for his song “God Bless Amerika.”
TMZ reports that the rapper is seen beginning the music video promo, which was filmed in New Orleans, standing in front of a giant American flag. The flag is dropped to the floor where Lil Wayne dances and stomps all over it singing, "My country 'tis of thee / Sweet land of kill 'em all and let 'em die / God bless Amerika / This ole' godless Amerika."
Although the flag is protected under the country’s legal guidelines, Lil Wayne’s right to sing and dance all over it is a constitutionally protected right and chances are the rapper will not see charges brought against him, Contact Music reports.
Since the video’s release it has received nothing but backlash among viewers calling Wayne’s actions “disrespectful.”
