The premiere of The Lone Ranger took place on Saturday at the California Adventure Park, where star Armie Hammer talked about filming and what he and the cast had to do to prepare.

Hammer, who shot to fame after his breakout role in The Social Network, said he had to go “cowboy camp” before they started filming so that everyone knew the basics of cowboy skills. While there, they learned how to throw a lasso and the right way to ride a horse.

"We all went to cowboy camp," he said at the premiere, "But don't worry - I'm a pro."

Hammer also talked about the film being shot on location in New Mexico, telling The Hollywood Reporter, "It was really helpful. It was the difference between standing in the middle of the desert looking at some of the most beautiful scenery you can point a camera at and standing in an air conditioned room at some studio going, 'This is a lot of green fabric. It just made it that much more real, and hopefully, the audience feels it as well."

As for his co-star, Johnny Depp, Hammer had nothing but praise for him. "He's such a great guy. Nicest guy in the world. He's fantastic," he said.

Contact Music notes the film cost $250 million to make, and stars Hammer in the title role and Depp as Tonto.
