After a battle with her label about the sound of her sound, M.I.A released a new single “Bring the Noize.”

Interscope records refused to release Matangi because it was “too positive” and told her to “darken it up a bit,” MTV reports. It seems she took their advice on her new single with the lyrics “truth is like the rotten tooth, you got to spit it out,” and “it’s not me and you, it’s the f—ing banks.”

M.I.A told BBC Radio DJ Zane Lowe on Monday she doesn’t know when Matangi will be released, which is why she released the song to radio herself.

“This is my last stab at it. I keep finishing the record, handing it in, finishing the record, handing it in. I’ve given up at this point . . . if I didn’t get [‘Bring the Noize’] out now, I would have definitely exploded,” she told Lowe.

The album was supposed to be released in late 2012 according to NME but Interscope was not convinced with her work. However, based on her Vine account a video for the single may be in the works.
