Mariah Carey keeps fans awaiting her new album, The Art of Letting Go , announcing a delay in the release.

The self-proclaimed diva took to Twitter to inform her fans and followers that her newest album will be delayed due to immersion in the “creative process.” Carey wrote that she is so invested in producing “meaningful” work, that she knows the album will not be ready for its July 23 release.

The New York Daily News reports that Carey, fresh off her exit from American Idol , informed fans that she would tell them when her new music is ready saying, “I want to give you this album as it's meant to be heard. When I'm ready, you'll be the first 2 know!"

Fans of Carey worried when the singer became pregnant with twins, by husband Nick Cannon, in 2011, concerned that motherhood would delay future music. At the time, Cannon attempted to soothe fans, saying in an interview that pregnancy had made his wife itching to write new music.

"She's been working away and we have a studio in the crib, and (the pregnancy) has totally inspired her on so many different levels," Cannon said. "You're definitely gonna see some new phenomenal music from Mariah."

The delay comes as a surprise to fans, who helped Carey’s most recent single, “#Beautiful,” reach number 15 on the pop charts, according to Newsday . Despite the delay, Carey is set to perform in Central Park at the Macy’s 4th of July Fireworks Spectacular.
