Matt Smith, the current star of BBC’s Doctor Who, filmed a silent thank you video to thank the show’s crew and fans for his four years spent as the Doctor.
In the video, Smith holds up signs to thank the show’s crew, cast, and fans, channeling Bob Dylan’s video for his song “Subterranean Homesick Blues,” according to the Independent.
“Doctor Who land, listen, this is a message to say thank you for all your support over the past four years, to Steven Moffat, all the brilliant cast and crew who've just made the whole journey a marvelous one,” said Smith after his silent hand-written message.
“But really what makes this job truly spectacular is the fans and the support from the fans is truly unique. And it's meant a lot so thank you.”
It was announced earlier this month that Smith would leave the show after the 2013 50th Anniversary and Christmas specials in November and December, ending his four-year reign as the show’s protagonist.
“Great actors always know when it's time for the curtain call, so this Christmas prepare for your hearts to break, as we say goodbye to number Eleven. Thank you Matt -- bow ties were never cooler,” said executive producer Steven Moffat, reports the Huffington Post.
“Of course, this isn't the end of the story, because now the search begins. Somewhere out there right now -- all unknowing, just going about their business -- is someone who's about to become the Doctor. A life is going to change, and 'Doctor Who' will be born all over again! After 50 years, that's still so exciting!”
Some speculate that Smith’s replacement will be Rory Kinnear.
Smith, who made his first appearance in 2010, starred on the show for three seasons.
