Miss Utah, Marissa Powell of Salt Lake City, Utah, gave a confusing answer at the Miss USA pageant on Sunday night when asked a question about women’s wages and the video is now going viral.
Real Housewives of Atlanta star NeNe Leakes asked Powell at the Las Vegas pageant, “A recent report shows that in 40% of American families with children, women are the primary earners, yet they continue to earn less than men. What does it say about society?”
NY Daily News notes 21-year-old Powell struggled to answer, saying “I think we can relate this back to education and how we are continuing to try to strive to figure out how to create jobs right now.”
She continued, “That is the biggest problem, and I think especially the men are seen as the leaders of this, and so we need to try to figure out how to create education better so that we can solve this problem.”
Powell didn’t win, Miss Connecticut Erin Brady did. Zap2it notes Brady answered a question about DNA testing on criminals after they’ve been arrested, siding with the Supreme Court on the issue.
