MTV, VH1, and CMT are launching a online-only music festival later this month. The 24-hour “Lie Music Day Festival” will start at 7 p.m. on June 19 and is taking place during the O Music Awards.
Performances will range from rock, indie, pop, R&B, and folk. Hanson, Gavin DeGraw, Atlas, Genius, Labrinth, Langhorne Slim, and Kate Nash, are just a few of the acts according to Reuters.
MTV, VH1, and CMT are part of Viacom Inc. “Live Music Day Festival” will be streamed live from Viacom’s offices in New York, Nashville, and Los Angeles. Viewers will be able to watch the show via computers, laptops, tablets, and smartphones. Viewers also have the option of selecting the acts and awards they want to see.
The OMAs celebrate digital music, featuring categories Best Music App, Most Inspiring Fan Outreach, and Best Artist Instagram according to the Hollywood Reporter. Frank Ocean is up for Most Follow Artist on Twitter and Too Much Ass for TV. Justin Bieber is nominated for Fan Army FTW.
The first OMAs was held in Las Vegas in 2011 and included rapper Chiddy of duo Chiddy Bang set a Guinness World Record for the “longest freestyle rap” and “longest marathon rap” after performing for more than nine hours.
This is not the first time Viacom has launched an online festival. In April they launched a event with its Comedy Central property and partnered with Twitter for an online comedy festival.
“We’ve created the first-of-its-kind music festival that’s both connecting artists and fans and allowing them to participate in the awards and festival in new ways,” Dermot McCormack, head of connected content for Viacom Music, said in a statement.
