MTV and Viacom’s other music networks are joining forces for a first-of-its-kind online-only music festival that will last 24 hours. Over 50 artists from all genres of popular music have signed on to participate.
The Live Music Day Festival will be timed with this year’s O Music Awards and will take place on June 19. According to The Hollywood Reporter, some of the acts taking part include Atlas Genius, 2AM Club, Hanson, Gavin DeGraw, Kate Nash and Matt Nathanson.
Reuters reports that the performances will take place live from the MTV, CMT and VH1 offices in New York and Los Angeles. One of the marquee events will be The Roots’ Questlove taking part in a 24-hour ‘drum-a-thon.’
“We've created the first-of-its-kind music festival that's both connecting artists and fans and allowing them to participate in the awards and festival in new ways," Dermot McCormack, head of connected content for Viacom Music, stated.
Fans get to pick and chose the performances and awards they want to see using their computers and smartphones.
The O Music Awards honor artists for their activity with fans on social networks like Facebook and Twitter. There are awards for Best Music App, Fan Army FTW and even Best Artist Instagram. Fans can already start voting here.
While this is a first for music, Viacom teamed up with Twitter for a similar event for Comedy Central in April.
