Former South African President Nelson Mandela is still in critical condition after being hospitalized June 8 with a recurring lung infection.
His children and grandchildren held a meeting with clan elders at his home in the Eastern Cape on Tuesday to discuss “sensitive family matters,” reports Telegraph.
A source said the “elders had called a meeting,” according to South Africa’s News24.
Some reports suggest that the meeting became “heated.” Napilisi Mandela said the meeting was called to talk about “delicate matters pertaining to the anti-apartheid icon.”
His wife, Grace Machel, reportedly spends every night at the hospital.
“The doctors are doing everything possible to ensure his well-being and comfort,” South African President Jacob Zuma said on Monday, after visiting the revolutionary in the Pretoria hospital.
Mandela’s devotees gathered outside the hospital, chanting his name and hanging signs of support, reports CNN.
“We wish him well. We are calling on the world to unite and pray for Madiba,” said Innocentia Moselane, 24. “He is our icon, and we love him.”
Another supporter, 36-year-old Kuda Nyahumzvi said, “He is our hero. He is my mentor, my father. He is everything to me. But when it is his time, we wish his soul could just rest. He spent so long in jail and struggling.”
