Oprah Winfrey is once again sharing her massive fortune with those in need. Winfrey is shelling out $12 million to the National Mall in Washington, which will document African-American history.
Her total contributions to the National Museum now total $13 million, as has previously given $1 million to the National Museum of African American History and Culture. She’s currently the largest donor to date.
The AP reports that Winfrey said in a statement about the $500 million museum, which began construction last year, "I am deeply appreciative of those who paved the path for me and all who follow in their footsteps. By investing in this museum, I want to help ensure that we both honor and preserve our culture and history, so that the stories of who we are will live on for generations to come.”
The museum will be the 15th Smithsonian museum when its officially completed in 2015. It has over 22,000 to store there, including memorabilia from Winfrey’s noted career.
Washington Post reports Winfrey has been part of the museum’s advisory council since 2004.
The museum is still raising the $250 million more they need to complete it.
