Schoolboy Q released “Collard Greens” today in anticipation for his upcoming LP Oxymoron. The track features fellow Black Hippy member Kendrick Lamar.
Schoolboy Q opens his track with his signature call “Yawk! Yawk! Yawk!" Things only get better from there.
Smooth synths with a relentless, skipping rim hits provide a perfect contrast thanks to producer THC and co-producer Gwen Bunn, according to Hip-Hop Wired. The Needle Drop describes THC as the in-house producer of Top Dawg Entertainment, Kendrick and Q’s record label.
Highlights of the track include the catchy hook and the part of Kendrick’s verse that’s in Spanish. That’s right, Kendrick raps in Spanish, and it’s not nearly as laughable as Danny Brown’s attempt on “Jealous”. (“No señor, you no chico/I do not speak no Spanish/So I don’t know what that mean, yo.)
Though it’s ultimately up to the listener to decide, it is most likely that listening to this track will only make one anticipate Schoolboy Q’s album.
