A report from the National Enquirer claims Paula Deen said during a deposition that she uses the “n-word” and wanted black people to play slaves during a wedding.
Last year, former General Manager of the celebrity chef’s Savannah, Georgia restaurant launched a $1.2 million lawsuit against her for using racial slurs and claiming her husband was physically abusive.
The deposition was in May, and National Enquirer reports she admitted to using the racial slur.
When her attorney asked her if she used the word, she said “Yes, of course.” She added, “It’s just what they are — they’re jokes…most jokes are about Jewish people, rednecks, black folk…I can’t determine what offends another person.”
Salon reports that when asked about claims that she wanted black men to act as slaves at an event she was planning, she didn’t deny that either.
“The whole entire waiter staff was middle-aged black men, and they had on beautiful white jackets with a black bow tie,” she said. “I mean, it was really impressive. That restaurant represented a certain era in America…after the Civil War, during the Civil War, before the Civil War…It was not only black men, it was black women…I would say they were slaves.”
RadarOnline notes the deposition was video taped and in it, she uncovers family secrets such as her brother Bubba’s addiction to cocaine, pornography and alcohol.
A source said, “While Paula and Bubba did make some pretty damaging confessions in their depositions, what they admitted to only scratches the surface of what actually goes on in their daily lives.”
