In a survey with surprising results, 8 out 10 parents are not concerned with how much time children spend in front of the glow of a laptop, TV or tablet.
According to USA Today, the results found are most likely due to the fact that parents are also heavy users of media.
A researcher from Northwestern University, Ellen Wartella, told USA Today, “We generally found that media use is not a source of conflict in the home.”
Chicago Tribune reports that the survey included 2,300 parents for the study researchers titled “Parenting in the Age of Digital Technology.”
"There's really been a generational shift in parental attitudes about technology's role in children's lives,” Wartella told Chicago Tribune.
The study found that parents don’t actually use media devices as much as everyone assumes. Also, parents said that the use of technology does not make raising a child any easier.
Over half of the parents surveyed said that the consumption of media was not worrisome and believed that television did not stunt their children’s learning or creativity.
Do you think the media affects children positively or negatively?
