Sandra Bullock has reportedly dropped out of Sony’s Annie remake after another round of negotiations broke down.
Bullock had reportedly turned down the role in March, but last week, talks had started up again. The studio was hoping to cast her as Miss Hannigan, who was originally played by Carol Burnett in the 1982 film. Hannigan runs the orphanage where Annie lives and does her best to make Annie’s life harder.
Sony wanted a well-known actress with comedy experience in the role, which made bullock a perfect choice. The Oscar winner has been in several romantic comedies and is known around the world.
But a source for The Wrap said today that it was not to be and negotiations ended with no deal again. Sony does have several other top actresses in mind for the role, but The Wrap wasn’t specific about who Sony is looking at.
The news was also reported by The Hollywood Reporter.
Annie is still scheduled for release on Christmas Day, 2014. Quvenzhane Wallis (Beasts of the Southern Wild) is playing the title role and Jaime Foxx was cast as the new Daddy Warbucks, Benjamin Stacks. Will Smith and Jay-Z are producing and Will Gluck (Easy A) has been hired to star.
