Director of the highly anticipated The Bling Ring , Sofia Coppola, shared real-life Bling Ring victim Paris Hilton’s thoughts about the summer film, praising the socialite’s sense of humor.
“She told me she liked it when people laughed when they saw the pictures of her,” Coppola said, referring to shots of the interior of Hilton’s home, which is decorated with all things Paris. “She has a good, playful sense of humor.”
Though Hilton and Coppola are not too people film fanatics would normally associate, the two worked closely on The Bling Ring , The Washington Post reports. Hilton offered her home to Coppola and the crew for filming, serving as an important source of information on how the robberies occurred.
The film dramatizes the 2009 burglaries of celebrity homes by a group of fame-hungry teenagers. The teens used information from gossip websites to learn when their targets, which included Lindsay Lohan and Megan Fox in addition to Hilton, would be out of town, leaving their belongings vulnerable. The group walked away with $3 million in clothing, jewelry, and other items.
“I was excited that she came and that she liked the movie,” said Coppola. “She’s a nice person. I was surprised when I met her. I thought she’d be very different from her persona, but she was very warm.”
Hilton recently opened up her home a second time to Elle and spoke about her newfound perspective on material things and what she would say to the burglars.
"There's much more to life than all of these possessions and everything,” Hilton said. “And if you want those things, you're going to have to work yourself, just like I did."
As far as coming face-to-face with the perpetrators, Hilton expressed that she’s “not a confrontational person.”
“But I would literally be like, 'You guys need serious help. And I want my stuff back.'"
