After a decade-long absence from producing new music, Sting will be releasing a new full-length album this September. The album is entitled The Last Ship .

The album is a follow-up to Sting’s 2003 album Sacred Love , and has developed through the singer’s work on a musical also entitled The Last Ship . The musical, set in England, will debut on Broadway in 2014.

Rolling Stone reports that the album is three years in the making and aims to expand the storyline of the musical. Due to the album’s role as a companion piece to the upcoming musical, the songs will tell stories of the sailors in the shipyard in which the musical takes place.

Sting collaborated with composers John Logan and Brian Yorkey to produce The Last Ship musical, which is a homecoming story of sorts centered around the decline of the shipbuilding business during the 1980’s.

According to Billboard the 61-year-old singer’s 11th studio album will drop on September 24.
