The Beach Boys are celebrating their 50 anniversary by releasing unreleased music as part of a six-CD collection titled Made in California. The collection is set to release on August 27 on Capitol.
According to Rolling Stone the CDs will follow the band’s half-century career with more than seven and a half hours of music. The collection will also include 60 original songs, demos, alternate takes, and various concert, television and radio performances.
Previously unreleased tracks included in the set are “Goin’ to the Beach,” “California Feelin’,” “Soul Searchin’” and “You’ve Lost That Lovin’ Feeling.” A cappella songs performed by the band include, “This Whole World” and “Slip on Through.”
The package is set up as a high school yearbook and includes a personal essay “My Philosophy” Brian Wilson wrote while he was a student in 1959. Replicas of Beach Boys artwork and memorabilia, photos from the band’s archives and “handwritten yearbook-style inscriptions” will also be included.
“The box set captures the evolution of a dream which started with a family singing Every Brothers songs around a piano, to creating the harmonies that fans would carry in their hearts for a lifetime,” Mike Love said in a statement USA Today reports.
