A demo of the Beatles’ first single, “Love Me Do,” sold on eBay for $10,255.74.
According to Ultimate Classic Rock was from the seller’s personal collection and was one of 250 copies made for radio airplay in 1962.
At the time the Beatles were so unknown the songwriting credit was given to “McArtney” instead of Lennon-McCartney. Rolling Stone reported “Love Me Do” hit number 17 when it released in the U.K. it was the Beatles Please Please Me that gave them their start to stardom.
In 2011 another copy of “Love Me Do” sold for more than $17,000 at an auction.
A letter John Lennon wrote to Paul McCartney was his late wife Linda was up for sale in May as part of an online auction organized by Profiles in History and was expected to sell for $60,700. However, there’s no word on the contents of the letter.
As previously reported a custom VOX guitar used by John Lennon and George Harrison was sold at another auction for $408,000.
