The third annual Critics’ Choice Television Awards were handed out last night with the Broadcast Television Journalists Association naming The Big Bang Theory the best comedy series on television. The group couldn’t decide on the best drama series on TV, instead handing the award to Breaking Bad and Game of Thrones in a tie.

Comedian Louis C.K. of FX’s Louie won Best Actor in a Comedy Series, while Julia Louis-Dreyfus won Best Actress for HBO’s Veep. Patton Oswalt won for his hilarious guest role on NBC’s PArks and Recreation.

On the drama side, AMC’s Breaking Bad and HBO’s Game of Thrones tied for the top award, while Breaking Bad’s Bryan Cranston was the sole winner of the Best Actor award. Best Actress in a drama went to Tatiana Maslany of BBC America’s Orphan Black.

The supporting acting awards in a drama went to Southland’s Michael Cudlitz and Parenthood’s Monica Potter. Jane Fonda won Best Guest star in a drama for The Newsroom.

Behind The Candelabra won both Best Actor (Michael Douglas) and Best TV Movie.

As we noted when the nominations were announced, Mad Men was curiously absent. While Elisabeth Moss was nominated for Best Actress in a Drama, she actually for her role in the Sundance mini-series Top of the Lake.
