In January 2012, author John Green released his novel The Fault in Our Stars, stirring teenage hearts worldwide. The novel received amazing feedback from critics everywhere and soon enough there was talk about a film adaptation of the novel.

In February of 2012, just one month after the publication of the novel, the film rights were optioned to 20th Century Fox according to Publishers Weekly and Josh Boone was appointed as a director. According to the movie’s Internet Movie Database website, Shailene Woodley (The Descendents) and Ansel Elgory (Carrie) will be playing the two main characters, Hazel Grace Lancaster and Augustus Waters. The two actors are no strangers to each other – they are both in the upcoming dystopia film Divergent where they – strangely enough – play siblings. Many of the book’s fans were weary of the choice in actors, but John Green defended the actors on his Tumblr. He said that while the final decisions weren’t up to him he still supported the decisions 100%. He defends Shailene’s acting skills reminding the fans that she was only 18 years old with a Golden Globe nomination. He also assured the fans that both actors have a deep understanding of the novel and both had read it and were fans of the book pre-auditioning.

The plot focuses on Hazel, a surviving cancer patient who strikes up a romance with Augustus when they meet in a support group.

The movie is still in its pre-production phase, but according to Josh Boone’s Twitter they start filming at the end of August and have begun location scouting.
