One of the things that I had really liked about this season so far was that they had taken the focus off of the bad acts and spent their time showing us the acts that made it through. Last night’s episode was a bit different. They spent quite a bit of time showing us some of the less successful acts, including a very conceited singing mime (?), some people dancing in chicken costumes, and a gum sculptor. Because of the time spent focusing on these terrible acts (and quite a few others), we only got to see snippets of some of the acts that made it through that actually looked really interesting, like Leon Etiene, a magician whose act managed to showcase at least three different tricks in his allotted ninety seconds, and three child acts (a break-dancer, a dance troupe, and a ballet dancer) that actually looked very interesting. Here are the top ten acts (most of which were shown in their entirety) from last night’s episode of America’s Got Talent. Is your favorite act not on the list? Add it in the comments below!
10. Bones and the Machine and DJ Aaron
I am not a huge fan of contortionist acts. Generally, seeing a person move as if they have no bones in their body is not something that I enjoy watching. Still, I can admire the skill that they have, and I liked seeing the two contortionists work together to create new moves that I hadn’t seen before.
9. Naathan Phan
I thought that Naathan was a much better singer than he was a magician, but I liked his personality and stage presence, and I think it should be interesting to see if he is able to step it up in Vegas.
8. Hammerstep
I really don’t like the gas masks tonight (Bones and the Machine and DJ Aaron used them too). Still, I liked their dance a lot, and I thought that the way that they moved was very skillful.
7. Aaralyn and Izzy
This girl was terrifying. When I saw her come on stage, I expected her to be one of the very impressive child singers that AGT always seems to find. But when she started screaming, especially in her girly outfit, it was shocking. While I doubt these two will make it very far now that the shock factor is gone, I still found them entertaining.
6. Virginia State University Gospel Chorale
Although I didn’t quite see the original dance moves that we were promised, I enjoyed what they did, and I definitely wouldn’t mind seeing them make it to the live shows.
5. Christef Brothers
The clips that they showed of these two practicing before the act looked like a total mess, so I was a bit nervous to see them come on. Still, they ended up doing very well, and the stripping definitely made Heidi happy.
4. Brandon and Savannah
Unlike Howie, I actually like people who come on and do an original song. I’m actually a bit upset that that song isn’t on iTunes, since it definitely sounded like something I would buy.
3. Taylor Williams
I love awkward comics. I feel like stand-up comedy in itself is an awkward profession that you have to be kind of nutty to do it. Being able to stand up in front of a room full of thousands of people and just talk and make them laugh, with nothing to play off, is a skill that I really admire.
2. The Struck Boyz
These boys were original, enthusiastic, and fun. I liked their act, and I think that they can do very well in this competition.
1. Forte
I thought it was very interesting that these guys decided to all come on together, even though they had only met three days before. Opera singing, at least to me, seems like something that is usually done as a single person. Because of this, I often get bored during opera singers, even though I admire their skill. I loved the combination of the three voices, plus the attitude they brought with them.
