With the changing economy and advancing technology, it’s not easy to find a job. A few of this week’s new releases get a look at employment struggles. Among them is a new comedy starring Vince Vaughn and Owen Wilson.
Two men with a lack of technical knowledge try to get their foot in the door at Google with The Internship. Having lost their previous jobs to digital technology and with the odds against them, Billy and Vince try to show that they’re relevant by joining the young, tech savvy people at Google. The PG-13 comedy is a fish out of water story starring Wedding Crashers Wedding Crashers i> co-stars Vince Vaughn and Owen Wilson alongside John Goodman, JoAnna Garcia and Will Ferrell. It plays for two hours.
In an effort to keep crime down throughout the year, the government allows crime to be legal for one night in The Purge. The thriller follows one family as they try to stay safe amidst the chaos. Ethan Hawke and Lena Headey star in the one hour and twenty-five minute film. It’s rated R for violence and language.
A teenager deals with the pains of growing up with self-absorbed parents in Cool as I Am. Having had her at a young age, Lucy’s parents feel as though they missed out on being young. As they try to relive their youth, their daughter is on the verge of becoming a woman. The one hour and thirty-two minute comedic drama stars Claire Danes, James Marsden and Sarah Bolger. The limited released film is rated R for sex and drugs.
A published novelist with a failing career grudgingly goes back to his hometown to live with his crazy family in Finding Joy. Things start to look up for him after he meets Joy, the free-spirit who lives across the street. Having found out that she’s expected to die soon, she asks him to write her obituary, forcing them to hang out more frequently. He begins to fall for her and wonders whether or not she really is about to die. The unrated comedy is playing for one hour and thirty minutes. It’s available in limited theaters.
Shakespeare is reinvented with Joss Whedon’s Much Ado About Nothing. The PG-13 romantic comedy shows two completely different couples’ views on love. It is filmed in black and white and uses the original Shakespeare text. The limited release is rated PG-13.
With the world coming to an end, a young couple tries to put a stop to the devil taking over in Rapture-Palooza. Amidst raptures, talking locusts and blood showers, the Anti-Christ arrives in suburban Seattle and falls for a young woman named Lindsay. At the risk of becoming satan’s bride, Lindsay her boyfriend, family and neighbor come up with ways to end his reign. Anna Kendrick, Craig Robinson, John Francis Daley, Rob Corddry and Ana Gasteyer star in the one hour and twenty-four minute comedic horror film. The limited released film is rated R for language, sex and drugs.
Image is everything in Syrup. The limited released comedic drama is based on Max Berry’s satirical novel of the same name. After just graduating from school with a marketing degree, Scat is convinced that he has a great idea that will earn him millions of dollars. In order to make his dream happen, he must convince others to give him a shot. On his way, he begins to lose himself in the deceit and lies that he’s been telling others which, in turn, could cause him to lose his chance at love. The one hour and thirty-five minute film is rated R for language, sex and drugs.
Following the sudden death of her father, a young woman struggles to find peace and happiness in Tiger Eyes. After moving to New Mexico with her mom, Davey can’t seem to get out of her rut, that is, until she meets a young Native American man named Wolf. The PG-13 drama is based on Judy Blume’s novel. It’s running for one hour and thirty-three minutes in limited theaters.
Two teenage contract killers begin to question motives in Violet & Daisy. What seems like a simple job becomes much more than that when a dying man hires them to kill him. The limited released drama stars Saoirse Ronan, Alexis Bledel and James Gandolfini. It plays out for one hour and twenty-eight minutes and is rated R for violence and language.
Four Australian tourists go on a trip to Cambodia, but only three return in Wish You Were Here. As more details about the disappearance are revealed, the group comes to realize the real reason behind their impromptu vacation. The limited released drama runs for one hour and thirty-three minutes. It’s rated R for drugs, language, sex and violence.
Get a look at the people behind the cocktails in Hey Bartender. The one hour and thirty-two minute documentary follows two bartenders, a Marine trying to make it big as the principal bartender at a swanky NYC bar and a former office worker who buys a local bar in his hometown and has trouble keeping it going. The unrated film is available in limited theaters.
The idea that the world is going to end seems to be a funny concept. This week the comedic apocalypse thriller Rapture-Palooza opened and next week This is the End makes its way into theaters. Also, on June 14 the new Superman film, Man of Steel makes its debut.
