Coy Mathis has earned the legal right to use the girl’s bathroom in her Colorado school.

Coy’s parents sued after school officials at Eagleside Elementary said that she had to use the bathroom in either the Teacher’s lounge or the Nurse’s office. Coy’s parents worried that she might be bullied.

"We're very thrilled that Coy is able to return to school and have the same rights that all the other girls had, that she should have had and was afforded by law to begin with,” Kathryn Mathis told CNN.
Attorney Michael Silverman of the Transgender Legal Defense & Education Fund represented the family in court.

"This is by far the high-water mark for cases dealing with the rights of transgendered people to access bathrooms," Silverman told the Associated Press.

Coy is one of three triplets born to Jeremy and Kathryn Mathis. She has two sisters. Coy was born a boy but identifies as a girl.
