America’s beloved Twinkies are coming back on July 15, Hostess has confirmed.
In a post on the company’s Facebook page, Hostess said that the golden cakes with cream filling will be back on store shelves in less than a month. The news isn’t too much of a surprise, since the name was quickly snapped up by investment firms Metropoulos & Co. and Apollo Global Management, which purchased a number of Hostess brands after the company went bankrupt.
“A lot of impostor products have come to the market while Hostess has been off the shelves," Daren Metropoulos, a principle at Metropoulos, told The Associated Press. Hostess will use the same box art that fans are familiar with, but the tag line “The Sweetest Comeback In The History Of Ever” was added.
The brief demise of the Twinkie sparked obscene eBay prices, even though there was a good chance that some firm would make a play for the name. Hostess is hoping that the Twinkies’ short break will result in blockbuster sales when it returns along with CupCakes, Donettes and other Hostess favorites.
So, it's time to start "The Final Countdown" until July 15.
