Will Smith had a disappointing opening with his blockbuster After Earth, in which he co-stars with his son, Jaden. But the veteran actor says he might be giving up the larger-scale films in exchange for more artistic ones.

Last weekend, the film opened at No. 3. It will get a June 7 release in the UK.

“It's been an absolute necessity that the movie be a blockbuster, but I think I'm going to start moving out of that and finding more danger in my artistic choices,” he told Digital Spy.

He added, "There's something about making movies that just really gets me excited. I love people being wrapped in a story and being able to deliver that emotional punch line at the end of the story."

However, The Huffington Post reports that all of his upcoming films seem to just be a continuation of his career thus far --Bad Boys 3, Hancock 2 and I, Robot 2.

What he did admit during the interview was not ending up on top, as when he was asked what scares him about making movies he said “The movie opening at No. 2. Oh, I just gave myself a chill."
