Singer Kris Allen, who won the eighth season of American Idol, and his wife, Katy O’Connell, have welcomed their first child.

In a statement to Us Weekly, Allen’s rep said that the baby was born on Tuesday. “Little Oliver Neil Allen is here! He's 7 pounds, 7 ounces, 20 3/4 inches long. Mom and baby are doing great,” the statement noted.

Allen revealed that O’Connell was expecting in an unconventional way in January, when he told fans on Twitter that the two were involved in a car accident. “Thank you @ford for equipping me with a car that kept my whole family @katyallen @ZorroPup and the little one we have on the way safe,” he told fans, revealing for the first time that he was going to be a father.

Allen didn’t step away from Twitter on Tuesday, retweeting messages from fans and a link to Us Weekly’s story. “Happy Day!!!! My little stud was born today. Oliver is here people!” he wrote in one tweet. He also called it the best day of his life in an Instagram post.

The singer and O’Connell have been dating since high school and married in September 2008. You can check out TheCelebrityCafe.com’s 2011 interview with Allen here.
