Psy’s “Gangnam Style” turned a year old this week and now has over 1.7 billion views on YouTube. To make sure he’s still in the public eye, the South Korean pop star has switched Hollywood agencies, becoming a WME client after previously being with CAA.
According to Deadline, WME will represent Psy everywhere outside of Korea. The agency said it “will work to expand his musical endeavors and pursue opportunities across all entertainment platforms, including film, television, endorsements, books and digital media” in a statement on Tuesday.
The Hollywood Reporter notes that Psy is still signed with School Boy Records, which is owned by Justin Bieber’s manager Scooter Braun. Universal Music’s Republic Records will distribute his releases.
It’s been a year since “Gangnam Style” was unleashed on the world and became the most-watched video in YouTube’s history. The video made him an international star, even though he’d already been a well-known performer in South Korea.
He followed up “Gangnam Style” with “Gentleman” in April and that video is up to 484 million views. That track debuted at No. 12 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart. The track is currently at No. 83 on the chart.
