Hollywood is turning the tragic Boston Marathon bombings on April 15 into a movie. The writing team behind The Fighter has optioned a book being co-written by a Boston Herald reporter.

Deadline first reported that Eric Johnson and Paul Tamasy are going to adapt Boston Strong, a book written by the Herald’s Dave Wedge and Casey Sherman. It will focus on how the city reacted to the bombings, which left three people dead and hundreds injured. Boston Strong, which uses the phrase adopted by the city in the days after the events as its title, is being published by University Press of New England and is expected to be out in 2014.

Johnson, Tamasy and producer Dorothy Aufiero also adapted Sherman’s 2009 book The Finest Hours, which he wrote with Michael J. Tougias. That project is being produced at Disney and Robert Schwentke is directing.

According to Entertainment Weekly, which also confirmed the news, no other details were available on the Boston Strong project.

Tamasy and Johnson were nominated for their script for The Fighter.

Dzhokhar Tsarnaev and his older brother, Tamerlan, are the suspects in the bombing. Tamerlan was killed in a shoot-out with police on April 19 and Dzhokhar was caught that night. He is appearing in a Boston courtroom today, notes The Boston Globe. He was indicted last month for 30 counts, including using a weapon of mass destruction.
