In a Friday ruling, King Country Judge Arthur R. Chapman set bail on 21-year-old Justin Miles Jasper at $2 million, after hearing further evidence on Jasper’s actions up to his arrest. New items presented from Jasper’s car—in addition to 2 guns, body armor, and Molotov Cocktails—included a machete, multiple knives, maps of 3 Seattle colleges, and a podcast recording.

The podcast held the key to Jasper’s apparent motive: protests in Brazil. With more than 1 million protestors in Brazil denouncing the billions in government spending on the 2014 World Cup and the 2016 Summer Olympics, Jasper said he would support the “Brazilian revolution” by doing something “somewhere in the Western United States,” according to MTStandard.com. He also stated in the podcast that “I’m going to make sure people understand and notice it.”
The judge remarked that the high bail was because Jasper is considered a flight risk. It appears Jasper stole the truck, with the rifle, shotgun, and body armor inside, from a single residence in Butte, Idaho.AP.org writes that Jasper had been staying there for a month, with the knowledge of owner Erik Henderson, an “acquaintance.” The unidentified owner called Jasper a self-described “anarchist,” with concerns ranging from GMOs to voting rights.
