Alternative rock band 3 Doors Down is scheduled to headline the Boy Scouts National Jamboree's featured concert this weekend after original acts canceled due the previous controversy surrounding the Boy Scouts of America's exclusion of gays.

According to the Associated Press, the band will travel to the Summit Bechtel Family National Scout Reserve in West Virginia to perform Saturday night. It will make this stop in the middle of its U.S. summer tour, and go on to play right after on Monday in Clarkson, Michigan.

The band was not the original act booked for the jamboree, but the heavy debates in March over the BSA’s exclusion of gays led Carly Rae Jepson and Train to cancel on the organization, according to USA Today.

While the BSA National Council voted in May to permit gay boy scouts - starting next January – it did not lift the ban on gay adult troop leaders. Upon the decision, Carly Rae Jepson and Train did not reignite talks with the BSA about performing.

BSA National Spokesman Deron Smith did not discuss the previous acts’ cancelations or refer to 3 Doors Down as their replacement act, but said, "We are excited to have 3 Doors Down perform for these young men and women, volunteers and visitors experiencing this amazing Jamboree in West Virginia."

The tour and jamboree performance are a critical turning point for 3 Doors Down, as 41-year-old bassist Todd Harrell was recently charged with causing a fatal car crash in a suburb near Nashville, Tennessee this April. Police stated that Harrell was speeding on Interstate 40 when he hit the back a truck belonging to 47-year-old Paul Shoulders Jr, who lost his life in the accident, as previously reported TheCelebrityCafe.com.

Harrell was found to be driving under the influence at the time of crash and as a result is currently facing charges of possession of contraband, unlawful possession of a controlled substance, vehicular homicide by intoxication, and violation of the implied consent law.

After bonding out of jail, Harrell checked himself into a drug rehabilitation center and the band canceled four concerts out of respect for the death of Shoulders Jr.

The bassist’s court hearing is scheduled for after the jamboree performance, on July 30th near Nashville, Tennessee.
