Anthony Weiner seemed to be making the unlikeliest of comebacks, from 2011 Congressional resignation, to New York mayoral candidate tied with Christine Quinn—until last week. After the news broke that he had continued sending sexual messages and images to women on the internet, Weiner dropped in the polls despite the continuing support of his wife. That, apparently, was the last straw for his campaign manager, Danny Kedem, who resigned.
The NY Times reports that Kedem gave Weiner his resignation in the last 48 hours. According to Yahoo News, this could hit the already understaffed campaign hard.
Despite media pressures to do so, Weiner reportedly will not drop out of the race. But even as he insists that “we have an excellent staff,” with plenty of volunteers, Quinn continues to press her advantage with the spectacle, calling it a “circus.”
“We really need to have a real race about things that matter to voters," said Quinn. "Congressmember Weiner has shown just a pattern of reckless behavior, an inability to tell the truth, and what New Yorkers deserve is a mayor with a record of delivering for them, of vision, and a level of maturity and responsibility."
