Former NYC Representative said he will not drop out of the NYC mayoral race despite newly-surfaced explicit messages and photos exchanged between him and a young woman.

The messages were allegedly sent after he resigned from Congress in 2011 due to a sexting scandal and took place during a six-month period in 2012, reports CBS.

Weiner has said that he expected more messages and photos would surface, though he has hinted that not everything said in this most recent incident may be true.

“People have a right to say whatever they want…people are out there saying things that are not true,” he said, according to the Epoch Times.

“I’m surprised more things hadn’t come out sooner,” he said. “Things aren’t that much different than they were yesterday. I said there were more things out there.”

Huma Abedin, Weiner’s wife since 2010, said that her husband had “made some horrible mistakes.” She added, “I love him, I have forgiven him, I believe in him and as we have said from the beginning, we are moving forward,” reports CBS.

Weiner had been out of the political sphere since he resigned in 2011 until he entered the NYC mayoral race. Despite the infamous sexting scandal, he has been leading most polls since he became a candidate.
