Asian Airlines has confirmed its decision to sue San Francisco news station KTVU-TV.
The lawsuit comes after a summer intern unintentionally aired a racist play on words as the pilots of Asiana Flight 214, which crash landed at the San Francisco International Airport earlier this month.
An intern at KTVU-TV “exclusively” revealed the names of the pilots onboard Flight 214 unknowingly revealing a series of racist jabs. Captain Sum Ting Wong, Wi Tu Lo, Ho Lee Fuk, Bang Ding Ow were written across the screen after an intern confirmed the names for airing. The announcement of the lawsuit was confirmed Monday.
According to CBS News, the airline is suing saying that KTVU damaged its reputation after airing the racist names stating their desire to “strongly respond to its racially discriminatory report."
Both the television network and NTSB have released an apology on behalf of the incident. According to the report, Asiana Airlines has decided to not sue the NTSB, saying that it was the station, not the federal government, who ruined their reputation.
