Avril Lavigne and Nickelback’s Chad Kroeger officially tied the knot on Monday.
People reports the wedding, which took place on Canada Day, was in France. Kroeger said the date was important because they started dating on July 1.
“We think it’s very cool that our anniversary will always be on Canada Day. We can’t wait to start our life together. We’re very happy,” he said.
The two Canadian rockers met while recording Lavigne’s latest album set to release in Sept. Lavigne also said the new album is “more artistic” and is not a “big radio record” this time.
“Lyrically I pushed myself to talk about different subjects I haven’t talked about before. I didn’t want to be so simple. I tried to really express myself and go deeper,” she said.
Kroeger proposed after six months of dating with a 14-carat diamond engagement ring last august Billboard reports.
“I had been making this scrapbook of my time in the studio. I walk over and he had taken a photo of himself holding the ring box and put the Polariod in my scrapbook. It was really romantic and kind of made sense,” Lavigne told Ryan Seacrest in an interview.
Lavigne is known for her punk skater look but The Huffington Posts reports Lavigne decided to trade the tie and converse for a traditional white lace gown with capped sleeves and a flower headpiece.
This is Kroeger’s first marriage. Lavigne was previously married to Sum 41’s Deryck Whibley for three years.
