Disclaimer: these may not be the most timely findings , but they are things that have just been discovered this week.

Inspirational:

Before Sarah Kay, I had never heard of spoken word poetry. But even if you think it sounds odd (I did), or irrelevant to you, this is a video you want to see.

Funny: XKCD calls itself “A webcomic of romance, sarcasm, math, and language.” It can be totally geeky (to the point of a comic written entirely as a graduate-level math problem), but the joke is usually still funny, and if it’s not funny, it’s romantic. Author Randall Munroe ordinarily posts every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday, but he’s also been running a comic called Time for the past 123 days that updates almost every hour. That link has everything from Time since it began, and you can pause, play, or fast forward (controls in bottom right) through the stick-figure epic. Or, one of my favorites:

Feminist: It has been a busy week in the world of misogyny. As TheCelebrityCafe reported, the aptly named mayoral candidate Anthony Weiner was at his online sexual antics again, and never mind his supportive wife. Meanwhile, a Norwegian woman travelling on business in Dubai was sentenced to jail for extramarital sex after reporting being raped by a colleague, wrote Slate, but was, thankfully, pardoned. Still, I wouldn’t recommend travel to the United Arab Emirates, ladies. Then, this article from the Huffington Post popped up, featuring abominable college failures to prosecute or even punish rapists. This, by the way, is top-notch schools like Swarthmore, UNC Chapel Hill, and USC, which told a student that “no rape occurred in her case because her alleged assailant did not orgasm.” Angry yet?

Weird: I couldn’t resist sharing 2 weirds of the week: a list of awkward Craigslist ads from Refinery29, and this video. Bonus: check out any (or all) of the sidebar recommended videos, and enjoy feeling normal and sane.

Useful: I’m tired of waking up to an inbox cluttered with sales, deals, and offerings from (what feels like) a hundred different stores, and I had no incentive to sign up for BradsDeals except a recommendation from a friend. Turns out, it’s pretty great—and you don’t have to sign up for the “Daily Picks” emails to still check out the deals online. BradsDeals is basically a list of the best prices found for designer items, hot commodities, and everyday useful stuff. It’s now the only email I read every day, and I visit the site for coupons, codes, and deals every time I shop online.
