In celebration of her husband’s album, Magna Carta Holy Grail going platinum, Beyonce shared an adorable throwback photo of Jay-Z as a child with the words to her latest hit “Bow Down” written across.
Beyonce captioned the Instagram post simply, “Platinum #MagnaCarta."
MCHG went platinum even before its release following a deal with Samsung, who purchased 1 million copies on the albums July 4 pre-release. Even with the RIAA rewriting the rules, Magna Carta reached platinum status with the help of his fans purchasing the album.
According to E! News, Billboard is not recognizing Samsungs generous purchase and will continue to watch the charts before they deem the album as holding platinum status.
“Our role as the chart of record is to set the rules, and hopefully even raise the level of play. It is in this spirit that I say it wasn't as simple as you might think to turn down Jay-Z when he requested that we count the million albums that Samsung 'bought' as part of a much larger brand partnership, to give away to Samsung customers,” explained Bill Werde, Billboard magazine editorial director.
The RIAA, on the other hand, have already acknowledged Jay’s success and shared a photo of the musician accepting his platinum status on Facebook. “It’s official. “Magna Carta Holy Grail” is Jay Z's 12th RIAA Platinum album! W/ Roc Nation”
Billboard predicts that MCHG will sale between 400,000-500,000 copies and surely give Jay-Z his 13th platinum album.
