Blake Starbuck, the oldest son of Clay and Chanin Starbuck, released a statement to local news station KHQ to protest Prosecutor Larry Steinmetz’s request of a no-contact order that would prohibit Clay from having any contact with three of his minor children for the rest of their lives.
Clay Starbuck was convicted last month of aggravated first-degree murder in the death of his ex-wife Chanin Starbuck. Superior Court Judge Greg Sypolt sentenced Starbuck to life in prison without the possibility of parole on Thursday, July 25.
The story gained national attention when Dateline covered the story in a two-hour special titled A Cold December Morning .
Clay and Chanin have five children. Two are adults now.
Steinmetz requested a no-contact order to prevent Clay from having any contact with his three minor children.
“This was devastating for my Father as well as my three younger siblings. They have been waiting so long to talk to him, and that is exactly what they deserve after already losing one parent in a terrible way along with their dad who has been targeted in a huge conspiracy influenced by detective's misconduct,” Blake Starbuck said in a statement issued to local news station KHQ .
Clay Starbuck plans to appeal his conviction.
