Channing Tatum has said that a Magic Mike sequel is on the way, but the story about male strippers may have a stop on the Great White Way first. The actor has confirmed a report that a Broadway musical is in the works.
On Friday, Deadline reported that Magic Mike, The Musical is on the way with Tom Kitt and Brian Yorkey writing the songs and Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa is working on the book. Kitt and Yorkey are best known for the Pulitzer Prize winner Next To Normal. Aguirre-Sacasa co-wrote the book to the current version of Spider-Man: Turn off the Dark and is working on another musical adaptation of a movie, American Psycho.
Producers include the film’s director, Steven Soderbergh, along with Tatum, Reid Carolin, Gregory Jacobs, and Nick Wechsler.
According to E! News, Tatum himself confirmed the story by tweeting a link to the Deadline story Monday.

Tatum has spoken about plans for a sequel as recently as last month. He told The Hollywood Reporter that he was trying to talk Soderbergh into doing it, but he couldn’t change the retiring director’s mind. Still, he is working on a script.
