Charlie Wilson was honored at the 2013 BET Awards Sunday night.
Justin Timberlake presented Wilson the Lifetime Achievement Award. Pharrell, Snoop Dogg, Jamie, Foxx, Stevie Wonder, and India Arie also joined Timberlake to pay tribute to the singer.
Wilson stepped onstage himself and then was later joined by other musical guests.
MTV reports Timberlake, Snoop Dogg, and Pharrell sang renditions of “Signs,” “You Dropped a Bomb on me,” and “Beautiful.” Indie Arie paid the tribute by singing “There Goes My Baby.” Jamie Foxx sang “Yearning For Your Love,” and Stevie wonder sang “Burn Rubber On Me (Why You Wanna Hurt Me).”
When Timberlake presented the award to Wilson he said, “Charlie Wilson is soul music. His impact colors the works of many artists, which is basically my nice way of saying I and a lot of other artists have stolen from him.”
Other performances included Mariah Carey with Miguel and Young Jeezy performing her latest single “#Beautiful.” R. Kelly sang a medley of his hits. Robin Thick performed “Blurred Lines” with help from Pharrell.
Nicki Minaj with Chris Brown opened the ceremony with new material the Associated Press reports. Minaj was awarded her fourth win for best female hip-hop artist.
“Every time I win it’s a humbling experience. My fans are amazing people,” Minaj said.
