A Chinese infant boy was stabbed 90 times, mostly in the face, by his mother after he accidentally bit her during breastfeeding. The baby, Xia Bao, has received over 100 stitches and is now in stable condition.

Xia Bao lives in Xuzhou, the Jiangsu province in eastern China, with his mother and two uncles. The uncles, who sell recyclables for a living, found him bleeding profusely in the backyard and rushed him to the hospital. He received stitches all over his face, feet, and legs.

Daily Mail reports that neighbors have begged the local government to take the baby away, but they will not because he still has two guardians besides his mother--his uncles.

The mother, who has not yet been identified, admitted to stabbing her baby. If she is convicted, she will most likely go to prison for the rest of her life.

According to Huffington Post, the government is now investigating the possibility of mental illness in the mother. Mental illness has become an issue in modern China because most people suffering from one go unnoticed or untreated.
