The Coast Guard crew in the Boston Harbor is still searching for a man who fell overboard from the third deck of the Provincetown II ferry Saturday night near Castle Island.
The 41-year-old man has not been publicly identified, but was on the boat for a country-music themed cruise through the Boston Harbor with his girlfriend. The cruise is operated by Bay State Cruise Company.
According to Boston Globe the man was engaging in horseplay and was trying to climb the ship’s third deck railing when he fell, as two passengers and a crew member standing about 10-15 feet away from him were trying to get him to stop climbing.
Crew members did not see the man surface after the fall, so they immediately contacted the Coast Guard. The ferry was traveling at about 5mph when he fell, and the waters in the harbor are around 65 degrees and calm, the Coast Guard says.
Provincetown II, which was carrying 370 passengers and 21 crew members Saturday night, is the largest ferry that travels on the Boston Harbor.
“Our hearts and blessings are with those close to the gentleman who has gone missing,” said the owner of the cruise company Mike Glasfeld, CBS reports. “We are moved beyond words by the emotions of the event. There are no words to adequately describe our sympathies.”
