Comic-Con saw even more action than expected Thursday after three stuntmen came to the rescue of a suicidal woman who was hanging off the 14th floor balcony.
New York Daily News reports that Amos Carver, Gregg Sergeant and Scot Schecter of Stunts 911 were prepping a scene for a Kick Ass 2 private party at Comic-Con when a heart broken woman climbed over the 14th story balcony and began holding on with just one hand and dangling one foot over.
Carver explained the situation to ABC News saying, “The [stunt] coordinator and I were up on a scissor lift, we were a good 30 to 40 feet in the area already working when we turned around and looked," he said. "There was just a lot of commotion, people were screaming and pointing."
Carver and his fellow stuntmen sprang into action and ran across three lanes of highway in the hopes of helping the woman. He explains that they tried to be quiet entering the building so as not to “alert” the woman. When they arrived inside the building "she was hanging on [the balcony] with one hand, and had one foot off the ledge."
Sergeant rushed in and bear-hug the woman, whose identity has not been released. Carver then placed a harness around her just in case she slipped. The men brought the woman to safety and stayed until police arrived.
“She just kept saying, 'I'm so sorry, I'm so sorry,' over and over again," he said. "She was very distraught." Police later stated that the woman was incredibly intoxicated and dealing with a split from her boyfriend.
Carver later explained, “We're trained to deal with these situations should they arise. But usually if we do, it's not an innocent civilian. If we're saving somebody, it's a situation we constructed in such a way that they're out on the edge of life or death intentionally to get a certain shot [in a film], and we swoop in…But those are people that are expecting this."
