After last week’s revelations that former Congressman Anthony Weiner had continued his sexting antics, Democratic voters are urging the NYC mayoral candidate to drop from the race.
According to USA Today, Weiner has dropped to fourth place behind City Council Speaker Christine Quinn, who currently leads with 27 percent, Bill DeBlasio and Bill Thompson in the latest Quinnipiac Poll on Monday.
The poll was conducted last Wednesday through Sunday and 446 likely Democratic voters were surveyed.
Director of the Quinnipiac University Polling Institute Maurice Carroll said, “With six weeks to go, anything can happen, but it looks like former Congressman Anthony Weiner may have sexted himself right out of the race,” reports The Huffington Post.
The poll showed a 53 percent majority who favored Weiner dropping out of the race as Weiner clearly hasn’t learned to stop his sexting habits that originally forced him to resign from Congress.
“I knew that revelations about my past private life might come back to embarrass me,” Weiner wrote in an email he sent out to on Monday, reports USA Today. “I waged this campaign on a bet that the citizens of my city would be more interested in a vision for improving their lives rather than in old stories about mine.”
As previously reported, Weiner’s campaign manager Danny Kedem resigned in the past few days as news of the latest scandal broke out and Weiner spoke out about refusing to quit the mayoral race.
