Despite earlier reports, Nobel peace Laureate Mohamed ElBaradei was not named interim prime minister of Egypt in the wake of the military’s ousting of President Mohamed Morsi.

The government’s plans to name reformer ElBaradei interim prime minister were stalled when the Nour party, Egypt’s second biggest Islamist party, which had joined the movement to remove Morsi from office threatened to pull their support, reports the Washington Post.

The government has not named any other candidates for the job, according to Reuters

“Indications are directed at a certain name, but talks are still ongoing,” said Ahmed el-Moslemany, spokesman for interim leader Adli Mansour.

The loss of the Nour party’s support would threaten the military’s current position and remove all Islamist support from the country’s transition process.

Military generals said they ousted the President on Wednesday after protests against the leader grew significantly.

Morsi, the country’s first democratically-elected president, has since been arrested. Protests opposing his administration began only five months after he took office and continued for another seven months.

The unrest culminated in four days of protests beginning on the first anniversary of his inauguration on June 30 and ending on July 3, when the military removed him from office.

On Friday, 36 Morsi supporters were killed by military fire during large protests.
