A federal judge sentenced Philadelphia mob underboss Joseph “Mousie” Massimino to over 15 years in prison for the charge of racketeering Thursday.
The judge on the case, U.S. District Judge Eduardo Robreno, called Massimino a gifted man who could have made a great businessman if he had focused his talents in the right direction. According to Fox, Robreno concludes that he still deserves to be in prison despite his skills.
"I can only conclude that you just don't get it. You never got it," Robreno says to Massimino, who is a part of the Ligambi regime, in court. "There is nothing before me that bodes well for your future as a law-abiding citizen, despite all your virtues and talents."
Reputed Philadelphia mob boss Joseph Ligambi and other defendants involved in the mob are set for a re-trial in October due to a deadlock in the jury in their original trials. Among the other members, they are being charged with racketeering, gambling, or extortion.
Massimino, who was convicted in February, was verbally attacking anyone who testified against him in court and objecting that their group was being equated to a group of terrorists.
NBC reports that Federal prosecutors want Massimino sentenced to the maximum 20 years behind bars because his arrest records span over the course of five decades.
Robreno, however, declined their wish and decided to remain on the maximum guideline sentence of 15 years and six months.
