The gunman who shot and killed six people at a Miami Apartment Complex has been identified as Pedro Vargas, a tenant living in the complex where he took the lives of six and held two others hostage.

The tragedy began Friday evening after a call of shots fired was reported to police. At the time it was reported that Vargas, 42, got into a headed altercation with the couple who ran the apartment complex. These two were found dead at the scene.

According to Reuters, Vargas lived in the fourth floor of the complex where the shooting occurred. The apartment owners, Italo Pisciotti and Camira Pisciotti reportedly went to Vargas’ apartment to discuss a problem when he opened fire on them. He then went to another apartment and shot another couple as well as their teenage daughter. Vargas then went to the balcony and shot a man crossing the street, killing him. Vargas also fired on ambulance and other first responders preventing them from aiding the victims.

SWAT team stormed the complex around 2a.m Saturday after making contact with the gunman who took two others hostage. He set the apartment on fire, but sprinklers put out the blaze. SWAY shot and killed Vargas after a melee attack.
