Former Saturday Night Live comedian Fred Armisen has signed on to direct a concert for Kings Of Leon and the American Express Unstaged series.
An American Express spokesman confirmed to The Associated Press that the Portlandia star will direct Kings of Leon’s Aug. 9 show at Shepherd's Bush in London. The show, like previous concerts in the series, will be webcast on Vevo and YouTube.
Armisen has directed several music videos in the past and said goodbye to SNL with a musical performance as his Ian Rubbish character. According to Rolling Stone, the performance featured Portlandia’s Carrie Brownstein, former Sonic Youth member Kim Gordon, Sex Pistols’ Steve Jones and other special guests.
In June, Armisen confirmed in an interview that he has definitely left SNL. “I think it's clear,” he told Splitsider, citing his many other interests.
The Kings Of Leon show will be the 13th concert in the American Express Unstaged series. The last one featured Vampire Weekend directed by actor Steve Buscemi.
Kings of Leon’s Mechanical Bull will be out on Sept. 29.
